Welcome to LMHS BLOG

Well, I have gone ahead and done it. I have created a BLOG for us antiques from the 1950's. We now have a BLOG where we can communicate with all of our classmates of the 50's.

My only requests are:

  • Keep it clean
  • Keep it LMHS related
  • No politics
  • No religion
  • And remember to sign your entry with your name and class.

Have fun BLOGGING.

ohmigosh - Jones Beach! I remember waking up on summer mornings and thinking "a great beach day." Levittown was only seven miles from JB.

Doris Clark dating hunkie lifeguard, Jim McGroarty.

Running into teachers moonlighting as state park policemen.

The smell of the ocean, hot sand burning the bottoms of my feet and splinters from the boardwalk.

Hey, Eileen! Don't tell me you don't remember those evening beach parties where we all drank vodka because it didn't smell (yeah, right). Throwing handfuls of damp sand to see the sparkles (what was that??). And then going down to the OBI in Oak Beach? How about our suntan lotion--baby oil and iodine? All this ruined me for life, because I've never lived more than a few miles from some beach, ever since. Janet

I REMEMBER THE DAYS WHEN JB WAS A GREAT PLACE TO GO, IT WASN'T CROWED LIKE IT IS NOW AND WE USED TO HAVE FIRES ON THE BEACH AND STAY ALL NIGHT....IT WAS GREAT.

As Allan has said, JB isn't nearly as crowded as we remember it when not everyone had a pool PLUS we are having our JB beach party on FRIDAY !!!

Hey, Janet - you are absolutely right! How could I forget drinking vodka mixed with Pepsi. Gawd!

Thanks for conjuring up those fun memories, especially the baby oil and iodine. The palms of my hands were orange all summer. Eileen

Thanks for cancelling the Las Vegas reunion guys.. I don't remember receiving a e-mail or newsletter asking for anyone's opinion or vote. Alot of us were looking forward to that reunion. We have already been there, done that at the Marriott and besides Jones Beach in July is not my idea of a good time. I've got Jones Beach here in Florida. Have a great time, without us.

Gee, Tony, thanks for your help !!!

It so happens that our Vegas contact (LMHS GRADUATE) became a no-show when we needed him to firm up things, so we either had to cancel Vegas (since we had nothing) or we had to cancel the whole ball game. We waited and waited and waited. He failed to follow through. He just gave us promises. We called, we wrote, we waited and got nothing. What would you have done?

We have about a dozen people working on this and they are all over the country. Who said you couldn't join in and help. Nice that you sit on the sideline and bitch. We would have not had the '97 reunion if we had more like you involved and only bitched about things that didn't happen. Teddy Roosevelt said, "credit goes to the person in the arena... rather then those who do nothing."

See the above list in the cc list, they are involved and help. They offer their opinions and vote on all decisions. They don't sit at their beach bitching. You want to help, HELP. Don't bitch.

    Joel,

MANY thanks for providing the inspiration and the energy for the reunion events. It is difficult to really help when we are all separated, so you and Tommy have been left with most of the work. I'll be going to NY soon and will go out to the Marriott to see what the party layout will be. Then - I'll plan some "decorations." If any one has ideas, please let me know - I'll be looking for black panthers and red and white stuff...

Joel, as I've mentioned before, my only goal is to see some of my classmates. The events that are planned offer several venues from which people can choose.

Each of us has to decide how much value we place on the reunion and then decide whether or not it will be worth it to attend.

There's no sense AT ALL in criticizing the committee, especially you, Joel. We're all volunteers trying to make a reunion "happen." Any group could have done this, but no one did. If some people don't approve of the plans, they are welcome to join the committee and make it right, or simply not attend. There can be no valid criticism of any of the plans unless you have been struggling to get all these things done via email and phone calls, as we - especially Joel, Nan and Tommy - have.

Joel, I hope we can let the negatives slip by without responding to them. We'll never satisfy everyone. We'll just do the best we can and be grateful for any help we can get. Responding to negatives will only emphasize them, drive people away, and drain our energy.

I can't wait to see dear faces and places from my high school years! I did not have a chance to participate much at the last reunion (extreme illness in my family). So I hope classmates will be inclined to come with smiles so we can laugh about our pasts and learn about our futures. I LOVE Eileen's and Janet's memories of the beach. And Billy Lynch implied that I looked plump in my bathing suit with green and brown HORIZONTAL stripes...

As I've said before Joel, even if we get reduced to just meeting for a hot dog at the beach one afternoon - I'll BE THERE.

Joel - Thanks for publishing those class lists in PDF format and making it difficult for spammers to get out real and email addresses.
I remember taking a Latin regents exam in 1957 and leaving before I was finished so that I could go to Jones Beach. Passed with a 75 and got to the beach and never met an old Roman to talk to anyway.

Jones Beach! Who said "You can't go home again"? I found out that you can!
It was June 1996, and I was in New York to perform with my band. I had been gone from 1968 to 1988 without a single visit home (a long story), and since '88 managed to get back for a few days every year or two. But I had not visited the place of some of my fondest teenage memories since around 1959.
So I asked my brother Danny to take me to Jones Beach and on one hot day in June 1996 he did.
I have a photo from that day. It shows me sitting on the sand in my bathing suit looking up at the camera with a grin wider than the sun.
It all came back...the hugeness of it all, the endless expanse of sand, body-surfing in the salty, robust waves, the sounds drifting in the soft breezes -- snatches of rock n' roll from transistor radios, seagulls cawing, laughter. Mellow Rolls (designed to flop your ice cream on the ground when you lifted the paper...remember?) And the promise of love, and sex.
    So beautiful these memories...
    Lovingly,
    Simone/Sugar

I found this site by accident and was amazed that it existed. I was Gale Zimmerman at LMHS if anyone remembers..Have had no contact with high school since graduation. I became Fieldman in college, long enough to have 3 grown kids, now 7 grandkids, and still practice law in Manhatten, which I have been doing for over 30 years. I would probably come to one of the reunion functions but will be out of the country that weekend. Have a great time and congrats on organizing this whole thing. Gale
