Jones Beach memories
I can remember getting sunburned at Jones Beach more times than I care to think about.
I can remember meeting girls there.
I remember the boardwalk.
I remember rollerskating there.
I remember playing handball with my brother and my uncle there.
I remember taking dates there.
I remember Nathan's hotdogs, the boardwalk, the sand, the surf, the umbrellas (which I never had the money for).
I remember the walk through the tunnel from the parking lot.
I remember sand in my shoes.
I remember the salt on my body.
I remember the traffic coming home and wanting to shower so badly.
and inspite of what Barbara Leary (Rivera) says, I do not have total CRS and do remember Jones Beach.

remember gritty, salted Egg Salad sand-wiches
I remember purposely placing myself in front of well developed girls in the breaking waves. "OPPPS! Sorry!" Yeah RIGHT!
Yelling in the tunnel and heaing our echoes
The Jones Beach Needle; What's it for? I don't know!
The varied colored slate map of Long Island
Beautifully landscaped and maintained
Making a depression in the sand at strategic geographic locations as I lay down
'Making-out" under the stars
Treading carefully to avoid splinters on the Boardwalk
I remember a tight bathing suit and a 28" waist...MINE!
NOW?....(I don't want to talk about it!)
What a wonderful time it was to be a teen
Gas @ .20 Cents per gallon
Soda Jerking @ The Park Sweet Shop. Making Egg-Creams, burgers N Fries, Sundaes etc for the kids after school as they danced by the Juke-box...Shha-Boom!
Da, curls hanging down in front, collar up, sleeves rolled up, pack of butts in the sleeve, Zippo lighters, Dual esxhasts, Glass pack mufflers, yes and the fuzzy dice...
Enough, I'm going to cry!
Where did it all go?
I've had, and have a wonderful life. When at long last it ends, all I'd say is, "Thanks, it was a great ride"

In 1957, Tom Dineen stirred the pot and got a whole bunch of us non-music types(Gees and Jocks) to join Mr. Al Bassos's boys chorus. Suddenly, Men'n'Music grew from 10-12 to 25-30 guys, mostly basses and baratones. It became a whole different kind of music organization.
On Tuesday and Thursday we joined Mrs. Agnes Golab's girls for mixed chorus in the LMHS gym bleachers. Since there were twice as many girls, the boys sat, surrounded by girls. Big mistake! The girls sat with backs straight, feet together on the floor. in proper singing posture. The boys were rowdy and goofy, spending much more attention on the girls than on the music.
In 1958, all of our efforts were geared towards competing in the NY State Music Assn. (NYSMA) competition in early Spring. It turned out that the L.I. competion was scheduled at East Meadow High School on the same day as the Panther's basketball team's final championship game in Mineola. We all warned Mr. Basso we wouldn't be at NYSMA.
I don't remember how it was worked out, but somehow I remember being at both.
