From Vegas to Jones Beach
We had originally thought having the 2007 (50th) reunion in Las Vegas was an exciting idea, but the hotels in Vegas could not commit to prices. In March we asked and they told us May. In May we asked and they told us June. In June we asked again and they said July so in July we cancelled Las Vegas because we needed to get the word out to everyone - website, newsletter, etc and everyone needed to make travel arrangements.
With so many of our classmates still living on Long Island we have returned to the Melville Marriott as our headquarters hotel. This time the main event will NOT be at the Melville Marriott, but a Jones Beach beach party.
Thanks to the efforts of Tommy Lamendola '57 and Allan Saren '55 (they both live on Long Island) we have secured the dates at the Melville Marriott and a caterer to cater our beach party at Jones Beach on Friday, July 20th, 2007. Allan has worked with the 'official' Jones Beach caterer, we couldn't use just any caterer we needed to use THEIR caterer. The caterer will serve for three hours, hot dogs, hamburgers, bbq chicken, etc. The full menu can be seen on our website www.levittownmemorial.org.
The dates of the reunion are July 19, 20, 21, 22, 2007.
The location is: Melville Marriott - make your reservations now. http://marriott.com/property/propertypage/NYCML

Gee John,
So negative. It may rain in July, but it will most likely not rain all day. That would be very atypical of July and besides we will be on the beach looking to get wet.
The caterer will have a canopy to cover the food.
and if it does rain we can all go and huddle under umbrellas.
As for 4 days, I don't disagree with you. We are still talking about Sunday. I for one, would like to end it on Saturday noon. Everyday is optional.

Personally I think this reunion blast is a bit overdone. 4 days - who can commit to that.??? And, what if it rains? Last time was well done - a night to meet and say hello and a formal dance to follow. A time to rejoice and renew old acquaintances and to say goodbye. Keep it simple - keep it memorable. Thats my opinion. John Columbia - class of 58,

JONES BEACH. The caterer has confirmed that our buffet cookout will be positioned in the sand, not on the boardwalk and our location will be at FIELD 4 between the Band Shell and the Game area.

Tony,
I'm so sorry that you are disappointed by the Vegas cancellation. As Joel stated, we really tried to keep it in Vegas, but the entire plan fell through after many meetings and conference calls...we were all disappointed.
Speaking for myself, I'm very excited at the prospect of seeing everyone again, at the Marriott, and JB. Please think about it, at our age, it may not happen again.
Peace,
Eileen Kelly

The Jones Beach event had to be cancelled as many of our classmates didn't want that much sun or sand. Less than 50% of the those that registered signed up for JB. That would be a problem with the catering, so we cancelled it.
In its place we have established a pool party at the Marriott with food drinks and cash bar. I hope that would make everyone happy for Friday. The pool party would be noon to 4pm on Friday and the museum tour would be all morning on Friday.
